What are the places at home that we often forget to clean?

Most of the time, all the places that need cleaning or tidying up are quite noticeable as soon as you walk into a room. However, there are many places that are hidden and secretly gather dust and grime without anyone noticing. In order to maintain your home in properly clean condition, you should also take care of those.

Simply taking care of all the noticeable areas is not enough. In this article, we will talk about the places that are most commonly neglected during the deep cleaning. Keep reading to find out what those are, and why it is so important to take care of their cleanliness.

  1. Underside of furniture
If you have looked under your furniture, you probably noticed a few dust bunnies and other grime. That can easily be removed with a vacuum cleaner. However, have you ever taken the time to look at the actual bottom of your furniture? That is the real source of all the dust and grime that can be found under your furniture pieces. You will be shocked by the stuff that can be found on your bed frames, chair seats, table braces, and pretty much the underside of any furniture piece you have at home.
  2. Walls and baseboards
Even though you are used to dust clinging to horizontal surfaces, it does that on vertical ones as well. Whenever you are dusting, you should not skip your walls, sides of furniture, and baseboards. Whenever you are dusting, open your blinds and curtains, turn your lights on and notice just how dusty and furry your walls are. Dust builds up especially well on textured wallpapers.Take the time to wipe down your walls from top to bottom, using a microfiber dusting cloth that will collect all the particles. Do not forget to get rid of any small stains and body soil marks that might be found around the doorknobs or light switches.Always wipe your baseboards in the end. You will be impressed by how much dust and grime gather there. In kitchens and bathrooms, wipe the baseboards with a damp cloth, since the moisture will turn the dust into soil that will be harder to get rid of.
  3. Tops of cabinets, doors, and pictures
If you usually dust your horizontal surfaces (tables, shelves, etc.) and think you are done, keep in mind you might be wrong. Next time you are cleaning, look up those areas – you will be surprised by how much grime gathers there. That includes ceiling fans and the tops of any decorations. A duster with an extendable handle will be perfect for tackling those areas. If you have the time, take all framed pictures and mirrors down and use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe down all their sides.
  4. Air filters and vents
If you live in a house with central heating, you will also have a ductwork system that connects the heating system to all your rooms. The hot or cold air escapes through vents and then returns to the air handling system. If the air that is being circulated is not properly filtered, all the grime and pollen will be returned to the living space. In order to prevent this, you can purchase filters for your heating/cooling system. No matter which type of filter you use, you will need to regularly clean it or change it if needed. Whenever you are doing this, take the time to clean the vent grates as well.
  5. Closet doors
You clean your clothes on a regular basis (it is very obvious when they need cleaning). However, how often do you clean your closet? You should wipe and clean the walls, floor, and doors of your closet. When storing clothes that you regularly wear inside, you bring a bunch of dust and grime inside it. Regular cleaning of your closet is needed in order to prevent mould and mildew from occurring, as well as ensure the cleanliness and freshness of your clothes.
  6. Your indoor plants
Whether you have real or fake plants inside your home, you should regularly clean them. Plant leaves can accumulate tons of dust and other grime. You can quickly wash them in the shower. If they are too large to be moved and washed like that, you can use a microfiber cloth to wipe both the top and underside of your plant’s leaves. For silk plants, use a hairdryer set on cool, in order to blow away all the dust and grime. Make sure you include this step in your regular cleaning schedule.
  7. Your cleaning supplies
When cleaning with dirty cleaning tools and supplies, you simply spread the same dirt around. Make sure you clean or replace sponges and cloths, wash your microfiber cloths, clean your vacuum cleaner and make sure all your tools are as clean as you would like your house to be.
